G D/F# Em G/B C
INTRO

      G D/F#
Well, me and my lady had our first big fight,
     Em G/B
So I drove around 'til I saw the neon lights
     C(add9) G/B Am A(add9) Am
Of a corner bar, and it just seemed right, so I pulled up.
      G D/F#
Not a soul around but the old barkeep,
Em G/B
Down at the end and looking half asleep.
    C(add9) G/B
But he walked up and said "What'll it be"?
            Am G
I said "The good stuff".
   C D
He didn't reach around for the whiskey,
   C D
He didn't pour me a beer.
    C D
His blue eyes kinda went misty,
         Em D/F#
He said "You can't find that here.

                G D/F#
'Cause it's the first long kiss on a second date,
Em G7
Momma's all worried when you get home late.
    C G/B
And droppin' the ring in the spaghetti plate,
            Am G/B C D
'Cause your hands are shakin' so much.
             G D/F#
And it's the way that she looks with the rice in her hair,
Em G7
Eatin' burnt suppers the whole first year,
    C G/B Am G/B C
And askin' for seconds to keep her from tearin' up.
     D G D/F# C(add9)
Yeah man, that's the good stuff".

             G D/F#
He grabbed a carton of milk and he poured a glass,
Em G/B
And I smiled and said "I'll have some of that".
   C(add9) G/B Am
We sat there and talked as an hour passed like old friends.
      G D/F#
Saw a black and white picture and he caught my stare,
         Em G/B
It was a pretty girl with boufant hair,
        C(add9) G/B Am G/B
He said "That's my Bonnie, taken about a year after we wed."
           C D
He said "I spent five years in the bottle,
         C D
When the cancer took her from me.
    C D
But I've been sober three years now,
           Am G/B C D
'Cause the one thing stronger than the whiskey,

        G D/F#
Was the sight of her holdin' my baby girl.
    Em G7
The way she adored that string of pearls
  C G/B
I gave her the day that our youngest boy Earl
A G/B C D
Married his high school love.
           G D/F#
And it's a new t-shirt sayin' I'm a Grandpa,
Em G7
Bein' right there as our time got small,
    C G/B Am G/B C
And holdin' her hand when the Good Lord called her up.
     D G D/F# C
Yeah man, that's the good stuff".

G D/F# C(add9)
INSTRUMENTAL

             D D/F# G
He said when you get home she'll start to cry,
         D D/F# G
When she says "I'm sorry", say: "So am I".
           D/F# Em G/B C(add9)
And look into those eyes so deep in love...
             D
And drink it up.
                  G D/F# C(add9)
'Cause that's the good stuff.
           G D/F# C(add9)
That's the good stuff.

I've just tabbed the picking in the intro here, as it stays pretty much
the same kind of thing for the rest of the song.

I normally would play G/B as x20003, but in
this song, the high note isn't played in the
picking, so I tabbed the chord x2000x as
that's how it was played...it isn't wrong,
just different...lol

in the tabbed out intro u need to slide back down in the begginin
slide, u hold it and pluck it again to slide down
-Sandz | 11/27/2002

-jesse_woodside | 12/17/2002
If you look at the bottom...just above all
these comments, you'll see that there is
some tablature...that is why I submitted it
as tab rather than chord...cos its both
-axehappy | 3/30/2003
why does it really matter whether it is tab or chord? the song is
correct, just play it.
-Supejosh | 4/8/2003
how long have you been playing axehappy, becuase you sure do know how make tabs perfect

you did a VERY fine job on this tab, its the best one of them all

-simpdogg69 | 4/9/2003

-leah wyatt | 7/9/2003
Great job!
-guitarplayer16 | 8/31/2003
Just wanted to say that the comment about the intro being wrong is,
well, wrong. It doesn't "slide back down", it's played just the way
it's tabbed.

Thanks for the tab!
-jastang | 9/21/2003
This is a great tab. Thank you!
-petunia | 1/7/2004
Outstanding tab, Dave. Great job.
-heyitskane | 1/29/2004
oh jeeze. this is..outstanding.. good job!!
-oshenmist | 8/3/2004
first off, good job, this is the most accurate tabbing of this song ive found on the web. i found a couple of things tho that make it sound
a little better. i think it sounds more correct if you use a regular C instead of a C(add9) when the C chord is found in the middle of a line.
ex. C G/B
Of a corner bar, and it just seemed...

when it finishes the line it can be played C then C(add9) then C again.
ex. G D/F# C C(add9) C
...the good stuff.

Thats it. I hope that helps someone out there when they learn this great song.
