Another Place in Time

Chorus: 
All (D) of the sounds and (G) aroma
Are here in the back of my (D) mind
As I dream-----(A) back
To another place in (D) time

We (D) always butchered in the winter (G) time
Neighbors came from miles (D) around
Herman would shoot the hog between the (A) eyes
Then slit its (A) throat with out a (D) sound

After the bleeding was (G) done
Carcass went thru kettles of boiling (D) water
Then hung up from the hind (A) legs
Scraping of hide and hair (D) begun

Clean meat cut into chops and (G) loins
Cut offs and trimmings to sausage (D) pile
Quartered into shoulders and (A) hams
It all took quite a (D) while

Scraps boiled down to (G) cracklins
The liquid became snow white (D) lard
Everyone had a job to (A)  do
We kids given those not so (D) hard

Hams and shoulders rubbed with salt and (G) sage
Wrapped up in gunny sacks and (D) paper
Hung in the smoke house to cure and (A) age
Hickory smoked to give great (D) flavor

All of the sounds and (G) aroma
Are here, in the back of my (D) mind
As I dream---(A) back
