(A)Hardest work I ever(D) had
Good times-bad times, we never(G) knew
Eighty(A) acres wore-out  mules (D)-Mt Sad

(D)Washed out gulleys, rough, rocky(G) ridges
(A)Sink-holes and hard  blowing(D) sand
Too much rain, or too(G) little
No(A) telling, what you’d get from Mt(D) Sad

(D)We’d till and plant in the spring(G)-time
Hoe(A) and weed all summer(D) long
Pray for decent harvest in the(G) fall
No (A)telling,  what you’d get from Mt(D). Sad

(D)I can hear the corn ears(G) hitting
The(A) side boards on the wa(D)gon
Jack and Kate,strainin and(G) pullin
(A)Narrow wheels and load a(D)-saggin
 	 
(D)We shuck early--before-(G) four
(A) In all one hundred bushel will be(D) had
Then we will shut the corn- crib- (G)door
