Poor Folks-Poor Ways

Poor (D) folks have (G) poor (D) ways
Thats what they said when I was growing (A) up
Low (D) pay and long, (G) long (D) days
Back then, you (A) had to be (D) tough

We lived in a share-(G) croppers (D) house
High ceilings and wall-papered (A) walls
Poorer (D) than country (G) church (D) mouse
But we were (A) happy, all of (D) us

Mama made us clothes from (G) old flour (D) sacks
And we had only one  pair of shoes to (A) wear
But we could make it cause (G) we bowed our (D) backs
Daddy cut every-(A) bodys (D) hair

Saturday night, we all (G) had a (D) bath
Three inches of water in a three foot (A) tub
Cleanest (D) kid got (G) to go (D) first
Dirtiest had  (A) to  be (D) last 

We were dutch-(G) scrubbed (D) clean
Shiny as a (A) penny
Sun (D) tanned, (G) skinny and (D) lean
Going to town to (A) get some (D) candy

None of us (G) knew of any better (D) days
We were just poor (A) folk
With poor (D) ways
