Weed Sargent


Weed (D) Sargent was his (G) monicker thru out (D) life
He could cut weeds better than anyone you (A) know
With a (D) wore- down (G)  butcher (D) knife 
And his shiny (A) bladed (D) hoe

It was a handle that (G) Dad pinned on (D) himself
As he went about cleaning fields and fence (A) rows
He (D) put his (G) worries  on the (D) shelf
And battled all kinds of (A) weeds the record (D) shows

He slew hog (G) weeds and Canadian (D) thistle,
Wild mustard, slick weeds and (A) nightshades
Volunteer (D) corn smart(G) weeds and (D) sissle
Along with cockle (A) burr,with his sharp (D) blades

Nary a weed could (G) escape his sharp (D) eye
Quick and clean with knife and tapered (A) hoe
Keep (D) up with (G) him, no one would (D) try
Clean fields and fence rows his (A) trademark, his (D) logo

Yes, Weed Sargent was his (G) monicker thru out (D) life
He could cut weeds better than anyone you (A) know
With his (D) worn-down (G) butcher (D) knife
And his (A) shiny bladed (D) hoe.
