Luke Stricklin: American by God's Amazing Grace
Album: American by God's Amazing Grace 2005

I heard this recently on the radio. I do not remember hearing in 2005 or later.
I thought some of you may appreciate it.

Verse 1:
D C
Bottom of my boots sure are gettin' worn
G D
there's a lot of holes in this faded uniform
D C
My hands are black with dirt and so is my face
G D
I aint never been to hell but it couldn't be any worse than this place.
D C
Tell my wife don't worry 'cause I know what to do
G D
it makes her feel better sometimes, but I don't know if it's true.
D C
I know if I die it's just my time to go
G D
but I pray to God every day that I make it back home.

CHORUS:
Am C
Well when you've seen what I've seen things don't seem so bad
G D
quit worrying 'bout what you aint got, thank God for what you have
Am C G
'Cause I could be raising my family in this place but I was born an American
G (strum 1x) D
     by Gods Amazing Grace.

Verse 2:
D C
For the last twelve months I've had a new address
G
   the neighborhood smells like sewage
        D
and the streets are lined with trash.
D C
You never know what's gonna be the next thing to explode
G D
but unlike these people, I have another home.
D C
It breaks my heart to see these kids out on the streets
G D
walking barefoot through the trash, beggin' for something to eat.
D C
I give them what I got, just to let them know I care
G D
and I thank God it's not my son that's standing there.

CHORUS:
Am C
Well when you've seen what I've seen things don't seem so bad
G D
quit worrying 'bout what you aint got, thank God for what you have
Am C G
'Cause I could be raising my family in this place but I was born an American
G (strum 1x) D
     by Gods Amazing Grace.

(Bridge is: D C G D 2X as strummed in the verses.)

Verse 3:
D C
You want to talk about it, you better keep it short cause
G D
I got a lot of lost time I gotta make up for.
D C
Really don't care why Bush went in to Iraq
G D
I know what I've done there and I'm damn sure proud of that.
D C
You got somethin' bad to say about the USA
G D
you better save it for different ears 'less you want to crawl away.
D C
And I'll laugh in your face when you say you've got it bad
G D
and tell you to spend some time on the streets of Baghdad

CHORUS:
Am C
Well when you've seen what I've seen things don't seem so bad
G D
quit worrying 'bout what you aint got, thank God for what you have
Am C G
'Cause you could be raising your family in this place but you were born an American
G (strum 1x) D
     by Gods Amazing Grace.

OUTRO: Finish the C G strum pattern and figure out the walk down.

I am not that good but I think it is G C D

I heard this song on the radio recently and it caught my ear. I found it on one of those "tube" dot com things and listened to it to try and figure it out. There may be a few mistakes. If so, please let me know so I can correct them. The only one I have a question with it the Am chord to C. And as I already posted the walk-down. If you know, it post it, so I can edit the tab. Post it here in the comments.
