Marc Cohn - Walking in Memphis

Intro - F - G - C - Am - F - G - C - Am

(verse 1)
F G C Am F G C Am
Put on my blue suede shoes and I boarded the plane,
        F G C Am
Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues,
       F G C Am
In the middle of the pouring rain,
F G C Am F G C Am
W.C. Handy, won't you look down over me,
F G C Am
Yeah, I got a first class ticket,
         F G C
But I'm as blue as a boy can be,

(chorus)
          Am F G - C
Then I'm walking in Memphis,
Am F G C
I was walking with my feet ten feet off Beale,
Am F G - C
Walking in Memphis,
Am F G Gsus/ G - C
But do I really feel the way I feel,

(verse 2)
F G C Am F G C - Am
Saw the ghost of Elvis, on Union avenue,
              F G C Am
Followed him up to the gates of Graceland,
      F G C Am
Then I watched him walk right through,
      F G C Am
Now, security they did not see him,
         F G C Am
They just hovered around his tomb,
             F G C Am
But there's a pretty little thing waiting for the King,
F G C
Down in the jungle room,

(chorus)
Then I'm walking in Memphis,
I was walking with my feet ten feet off Beale,
Walking in Memphis,
But do I really feel the way I feel,

Chords - Csus - C - Csus - C

(bridge)
              Csus C Csus - C
They've got catfish on the table
           Csus C Csus - C
They've got gospel in the air,
             E7 F
And Reverend Green be glad to see you,
        F#dim7 G7 C/G C
When you haven't got a prayer,
                              F G - C - Am
But boy you got a prayer in Memphis,

(verse 3)
     F G C - Am - F G C Am
Now, Muriel plays piano, every Friday at the Hollywood,
         F G C Am
And they brought me down to see her,
         F G C Am
And they asked me if I would,
F G C Am
Do a little number,
     F G C Am
And I sang with all my might,
         F G C Am
She said Tell me, are you a Christian, child,
           F G C
And I said Ma'am, I am tonight,

(chorus)
Then I'm walking in Memphis,
I was walking with my feet ten feet off Beale,
Walking in Memphis,
But do I really feel the way I feel,

(verse 4)
F G C Am F G C - Am
Put on my blue suede shoes and I boarded the plane,
        F G C Am
Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues,
       F G C Am
In the middle of the pouring rain,
       F G C Am
Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues,
       F
In the middle of the,
G - F - G - C - Am - F - G - C
Pouring rain,

in the original version there is a piano piece at the beginning. if anyone knows the tab/notes for it, it would make the song gorgeos. PLEASE poste. I'd be very grateful to you.

The main piano lick in the song (the intro)
is a triad or so of notes within each of
these 4 chords: F5, G5, C5, and A5. I'll
post a tab of it asap. This is a good tab,
palamino! I actually went out and bought
the sheet music for it so my piano player
could learn the actual version, and it uses
some additional chordage in there that
isn't represented here,
like "Gsus", "C/E", "Dm", etc., and where
you have "Csus", according to the sheet
music of the Marc Cohn version, it's
actually a "C7sus" and "C7"...anyways, it's
a great tab and I'm cheating over here with
the sheet music and nitpicking and all
that, but I will get a tab up right quick
for that intro.
