Intro - A

A E
Well I met this girl I swore was close to perfect
                                                 A
I could see the ring, the dress, and the whole 9 yards
                                                      D
I had a country station on and she reached and turned it
         A E A
Said she couldn’t stand the sound of a steel guitar

We hit the town to catch the early movie
And old Kris Kristofferson played the leading role
I said that’s my man she said who’s he?
I jumped up and said girl we gotta go

She don’t like to play my kind of music
She’s never heard a Waylon Jennings song
And She’s never been a fan of Willie Nelson
So there ain’t no way in hell we’ll get along

She told me she thinks country music is hokey
She said you can’t dance to it and all the songs are sad
I cocked my eyebrow and said you must be joking
Ain’t no excuse for having taste that bad

Then I asked her if she’d heard of Alan Jackson
And She said didn’t he sing that song called “Where Were You?
I said yeah but girl that man is a living legend
She said really? I thought he was new.

She don’t like to play my kind of music
She’s never heard of David Allen Coe
But she can’t get enough of Whitney Houston
I’m thinking Lord that is all I need to know

Solo

So when the night was over I walked her to her door
And I bid that girl an overdue farewell
An’ Without a good night kiss I jumped back into my truck
Turned on some Hank and turned it loud as hell

She don’t like to play my kind of music
She don’t know “Sunday Morning Coming Down”
She can’t see what’s so cool about “He Stopped Loving Her Today”
Or angel flying too close to the ground

She told me she sorta likes the “Eagles”
But she couldn’t name one hit by “Johnny Cash”
Naw, She don’t like to play my kind of music
So I had to tell that girl to Kiss my Ass.

Thanks for posting this. I honestly can't say if it's corrrect (I only heard the song once) but it's a great, great tune. Any song that mentions Kristofferson is alright by me!

one of the most well written songs in a while. says exactly what i wanna say to country haters
-amazingspdy | 10/1/2005
This song reminds me of why I'm single.
Most women my age and younger HATE real
country music. If it's not Rascal Flatts
or Kenny Chesney, they don't listen to
it! I actually went on a date with a
girl that had NO IDEA who Conway Twitty
was. I wanted to kick her to the curb.

love this f*cken song. im trying to play it but cant get the rythm. any one explain it?
-bewiss | 12/12/2005
The rythym is basically just up and down strokes.
Take the first chord for instance A. Its strummed in a 8 beat fashion, think of it this way.
1&2&3&4&5&6&7&8.
Downstroke on the count and upstroke when saying "and"
1(Down)
And(Up)
2(Down)
and(Up) so on.....
Then switch after 8 counts to the E and do it again 8 counts then switch back to A. For the D you will strum 4 beats and 2 times each for the AEA part.
I hope I didn't throw you lol. This is how I play it anyways.

I love this song. I started datin a girl and she said she was alright with country (meaning rascal flatts and kenny chesney as said above) we got in my car i poped in my david allan coe's greatest hits and she asked who that was she didnt even know who walon jennings was i was shoked whats this country comin to anyways needless to say there wasnt a second date!! so heres to all of us TRUE country fans we need a hand every once in a while
-J.R.H. | 12/20/2005
are right the chords are simple, i followed your beat, but some reason i cant keep the beat to sound like the song. the chords are good, thanks for the explanation. ill keep working on it and im sure it will click.
