Southern Wind- Rebel Son

(Em) (D) (G) (B7)2x
As I (Em)walk through the woods on a (D)cold winters eve,
I hear (G)voices far away, it seems so (B7)hard to believe,
That I (Em)hear these conversations with my (D)very own ears,
Because Im(G) standing all alone, not (B7)another soul is near,
(Em) (D) (G) (B7)
I (Em)thought I heard a young boy say "(D)daddy what do we do,
with these (G)brand new coats of grey, that they've (B7)given me and you",
He said "(Em)boy that coat represents our (D)great southern land,
so (G)wear it with pride one day I (B7)know you'll understand",
I (Em)thought I heard a woman say, "(D)husband I love you,
I'll be (G)waiting right here to greet you, (B7)when the war is through",
I (Em)heard the man reply, "my dear dont (D)worry I'll be fine,
I (G)promise I'll be home its just a (B7)matter of time",

Southern (G)wind blow on, through our (D)unforgotten land,
Here (A)today and yesteryear are re(C)united once again,
Hear the (G)cry of Confederates lost (D)many years ago,
Cannons (A)thunder and a lonesome loco(C)motive whistle blow,
Share your (G)pride inside with your (D)fellow rebel souls,
Hear their (A)stories from beyond the grave, (C)so many left untold,
Keep (G)Dixieland alive in your (D)heart and in your mind,
Southern (A)wind blows once again and will (C)until the end of (G)ti-(F#m)i-(Em)ime
(D) (G) (B7) (Em) (D) (G) (B7)
A (Em)heard a fire crackling, far a(D)way from where I stood,
I heard so (G)many southern strangers form a (B7)perfect brotherhood,
I hear (Em)horses rumble, carrying their (D)soldiers off to fight,
Gun(G)shots pierce the silence of a (B7)calm and quiet night,
I hear (Em)yelling fade away as a man (D)draws his final breath,
With his (G)rifle and his honor, he (B7)falls down to his death,
I hear (Em)hell on earth, and battle rage be(D)neath dark eastern skies,
Brothers (G)telling one another their (B7)ultimate goodbyes,

(Em) (Bm)
Spoken words:
After 4 years of arduous service, marked by unsurpassed courage and fortitude,
The Army of Northern Virginia has been compelled to yield to
overwhelming numbers and resources,
I need not tell the survivors of so many hard fought (Em)battles,
Who have remained steadfast to the last,
That I have consented to this result from no distrust of them,
But feeling their (B7)valor and devotion could accomplish
nothing that could compensate the loss that would have
attended continuation of the contest,
I have determined to avoid the (Am)useless sacrifice of
those whose service has endeared them to their countrymen.
(Em)By the terms of the agreement, officers and men can return to their homes,
and remain there until exchanged (C) (D) (Em) (C)
(D) (Em) (Bm) (C)(G)(Em)
(Bm) (C)(G)(Em) (Bm) (C)(G)(Em)
(Bm) (C)(G)(Em)
(Em) (D) (G) (B7)2x
I (Em)heard a young boy cry as he (D)fell onto his knees,
He said "(G)Jesus let my father rest in (B7)peace I beg you please",
I (Em)heard this young boy cry as he (D)took his fathers hand,
"Daddy (G)now I understand"- and then a (B7)boy became a man,
I (Em)heard a woman open up her(D) front door all alone,
She (G)receives news her husband will not (B7)be returning home,
I (Em)heard a woman break down and (D)pray to God and scream,
What I (G)feel it is so real, its in the (B7)air, its not a dream,

(D)(G)(B7)until the end of (Em)tiiiii-(D)ime(G) (B7)

(G) You will take with you the satis(D)faction that proceeds from the
conciousness of (A)duty faithfully performed(C),
and I earnestly pray that a merciful (G)God will extend to you his blessing and (D)protection.
(A)With unceasing admiration of
your constancy (C)and devotion to your country, and

(A)I bid you an affectionate(C) farewell.

The speaking parts are probably not right, but I tried.
Also I got all the way through and realized all my (A) should probably be (Am)
