you take the big E string on top (6th string) and tune it down from E to D....its called drop D tuning......i should be in tune with the 4th string which in standard tuning would be a D

when you drop D tune........... eadgbe will become Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb....it is best to do with a chromatic tuner if you have one.

Tuskfire - not true - doing what you are saying is tuning down a 1/2 step. Drop D tuning is only changing the low E string to D...
