Rodney Atkins - Watching You
If You're Going Through Hell (2006)

D - G - D - G

D
Drivin' through town just my boy and me
With a Happy Meal in his booster seat
Bb C D
Knowin' that he couldn't have the toy 'til his nuggets were gone.
D
A green traffic light turned straight to red
I hit my brakes and mumbled under my breath.
      Bb C D
His fries went a flyin', and his orange drink covered his lap
              G A
Well, then my 4 year old said a 4 letter word
        G/B A G
It started with S and I was concerned
   G D/F# Em D/F# G A
So I said, Son, now where'd you learn to talk like that?

Chorus:
                    D
He said, I've been watching you, dad ain't that cool?
            A
I'm your buckaroo, I want to be like you.
          G A
And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are.
       D
We got cowboy boots and camo pants
             A
Yeah, we're just alike, hey, ain't we dad
    G A G/B A G A
I want to do everything you do.
                       D G
So I've been watching you.

D
We got back home and I went to the barn
I bowed my head and I prayed real hard
        Bb C D
Said, Lord, please help me help my stupid self.
D
Just this side of bedtime later that night
Turnin' on my son's Scooby-doo nightlight.
   Bb C D
He crawled out of bed and he got down on his knees.
           G A
He closed his little eyes, folded his little hands
 G/B A G
Spoke to God like he was talkin' to a friend.
   G D/F# Em D/F# G A
And I said, Son, now where'd you learn to pray like that?

Chorus:
                    D
He said, I've been watching you, dad ain't that cool?
            A
I'm your buckaroo, I want to be like you.
          G A
And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are.
         D
We like fixin' things and holding momma's hand
              A
Yeah, we're just alike, hey, ain't we dad.
    G A G/B A G A
I want to do everything you do.
                       D
So I've been watching you.

Bridge
C G
With tears in my eyes I wrapped him in a hug.
             D
Said, My little bear is growin' up.
    C G Em D/F# A
And he said, But when I'm big I'll still know what to do.

Chorus:
                  D
'cause I've been watching you, dad ain't that cool?
          A
I'm your buckaroo I want to be like you.
          G A
And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are.
         D
By then I'll be strong as superman
           A
We'll be just alike, hey, won't we dad
     G A G/B A G A
When I can do everything you do.
                           D G D G D
'cause I've been watchin' you.

Flawless. And such a cool song. Reminds me of my son. I change one thing in the lyrics when I sing it, but this is not a correction. You have it right. When he says:

It started with S and I was concerned

I sing:

It started with F and I was concerned

Great job, even though I hate playing that Bb.

This is one of the most stupid songs I have ever heard. It cracks me up.

high quality tab...well done! Think the 'started with S' chord progression should be G/B, G, A walkdown, rather than G/B, A, G. Posting some lead riffs for this song today...
