Rodney Crowell - I Walk the Line (revisited)

By axehappy - axehappyuk at yahoo.co.uk
***********************************************************************

G
I'm back onboard that '49 Ford in 1956,
                             D
Long before the sun came up, way out in the sticks.
    G Em
The headlights showed a two-run roadway back up in the pines,
G D G
First time I heard Johnny Cash sing I Walk the Line.

G
I got my thrill behind the wheel upon my Daddy's lap,
                             D
Grandpa rode co-pilot with a flashlight and a map,
G Em
Cane pole out the window, it was in the summertime.
G D G
First time I heard Johnny Cash sing I Walk the Line.

         C
I keep a close watch on this heart of mine,
          G
I keep my eyes wide open all the time.
           C
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds,
               D G
Because you're mine, I walk the line.

C G C D G
INSTRUMENTAL

G
All these long years later its still music to my ears,
                                       D
I swear it sounds as good right now as anything I hear.
     G Em
I've seen the Mona Lisa, I've heard Shakespeare, read real fine,
G D G
Just like hearing Johnny Cash sing I walk the line.

           C
As sure as night is dark and day is light,
           G
I keep you on my mind both day and night.
         C
And happiness I've known proves that its right,
               D G
Because you're mine, I walk the line.
               D G
Because you're mine, I walk the line.

I know this got a 10 rating... but it's
missing an entire verse and chorus... lol
"I never will forget that day...." into the chorus "I find it very very easy to be true..."

Not missing a verse compared to the recording i have. Great tab.

there is a verse missing. I've heard that version, also. "I'll never forget that day."
I can't remember the whole verse, but he says
"it sounded like it came down from outer space" in that verse. a lot of songs have
different words for various recordings of it.
but there is a part missing, because after it, the second verse of I Walk The Line is
sung by Cash. (I find it very very easy to be
true).

Here's the missing lyrics

G
I never will forget that day,I know the time and place,
D
Sounded like the whole thing came right down from outer space,
G Em
I still can see those headlights and that dashboard in my mind,
G D G
The first time I heard Johnny Cash sing I walk the line.

C
I find it very very easy to be true,

G
I find myself alone when each day's through,
C
Yes I'll admit that I'm a fool for you,
D G
Because you're mine, I walk the line

I didn't realize that the chords were going to get all smashed together, but you get the idea.
