i'm pretty sure the lyrics go "...and an older bottle of wine..." i think the inference is that he only has one dozen roses and a "young" bottle...of course its open to interpretation...you also left the intro chords out and i dont hear the key change at the end, feel free to correct me if i'm wrong -saleen9899 | 8/5/2003 |
If you own the CD "That Road Not Taken" (which has the original recording), the song is in the key of A. At the end of the song , it changes to B. If you own the CD, "Now And Then" (which is their Greatest Hits), you'll notice that they recorded it in a different key. It is in the key of Bb, and then changes to C, at the end. I am 100% sure of this. -WildCard76 | 8/5/2003 |
the version i have is in the key of A and it does not change at the end of the song. i also downloaded as many songs as i could off of kazaa and none of them changed key either, is the version you have on axehappy's ftp? -saleen9899 | 8/5/2003 |
I have 2 versions of the song. The original version (with the change), is on the CD "The Road Not Taken". It was released in 1989, and has "See If I Care" and "Church On Cumberland Road". The change is very subtle, but I assure you that it's there.

The lyric is "an old bottle of wine" in regards to a romantic gesture. And the key change is subtle but its there. However, they don't change keys when they preform it live. -rizzo0320 | 6/25/2012 |
Just to add to this decade old comment argument, every recorded version I have ever found starts in the key of A and ends in B. The original version off "The Road Not Taken" is slower, but still starts in the key of A. I'm not sure where you came up with Bb -JSprad9878 | 3/31/2016 |
