Sherrie Austin - Streets of Heaven

  ----->(Capo 1st fret)----

(verse 1)
       A D G A
Hello God, it's me again, 2 a.m. room of 304,
                    D G A
Visiting hours are over, time for our bedside tug-of-war,
  A D G A
A sleeping child between us, may not make it through the night,
   A D D/F# G Asus/A
I'm fightin back the tears, as she fights for her life,

(chorus)
         D G
Well it must be kind of crowded,
A D
On the streets of heaven,
       Bm G A-D-A
So tell me what do you need her for,
D G
Don't you know one day she'll be your,
A D Bm
Little girl, forever, but righ now,
   G A - Asus
I need her so much more,
                Bm D
She's much too young, to be on her own,
Bm G
Barely just turned seven,
   D G C G
So who will hold her hand when she crosses,
     D A D
The streets of Heaven,

(verse 2)

       A D G A
Tell me God, do you remember, the wishes that she made,
                    D G A
AS she blew out the candles, on her last birthday cake,
 A D G A
She wants to ride a pony, when she's big enough,
   A D G Asus/A
She wants to marry her daddy, when she's all grown up,

(chorus)
         D G
Well it must be kind of crowded,
A D
On the streets of heaven,
       Bm G A-D-A
So tell me what do you need her for,
D G
Don't you know one day she'll be your,
A D Bm
Little girl, forever, but righ now,
   G A - Asus
I need her so much more,
                Bm D
She's much too young, to be on her own,
Bm G
Barely just turned seven,
   D G C G
So who will hold her hand when she crosses,
     D A G
The streets of Heaven,

(instrumental chords - G - A - G - A - D)

(verse 3)
                A D
Lord don't you know, she's my angel,
          G A
You've got plenty of your own,
      A A/C# D D/G
And I know you hold a place for her,
            G D A
But she's already got a home,
      A D
Well I don't know if you're listening,
      G A
But prayin's all that's left to do,
     A D
So I ask you Lord have mercy,
     G A
You lost a son once to,

(chorus)
         D G
Well it must be kind of crowded,
A D
On the streets of heaven,
       Bm G A-D-A
So tell me what do you need her for,
D G
Don't you know one day she'll be your,
A D Bm
Little girl, forever, but righ now,
   G A - Asus
I need her so much more,

(bridge)
       Bm A
Lord I know, once you've made up your mind,
  G
There's no use in beggin,
       Bm G
So if you, take her with you today,
 D G
You make sure she looks both ways,
   D G C G
And would you hold her hand when she crosses,
     D A G
The streets of Heaven,
  (no chord) D
The streets of Heaven,

This song really hit home....
My little girl was diagnosed
last year with cancer on her 9th birthday...
And when something like that happens this

a truly awesome song...it makes me want to cry every time i hear it.
You did a great job on the chords...i give it a 10.
-xdrewx | 6/17/2003
I have only heard 3 songs in my life that made me cry. this was number four.
-seafor | 6/30/2003
great song. really tugs at the heart strings. But I think it's "room 304".
Could be wrong, but that's what it sounds like to me.
-ty2 | 7/20/2003
you are right...thanks for letting me know:)
-palamin0 | 7/21/2003

-jimw | 8/19/2003
What are the finger placements on D/F# and Asus. I just haven't
figured out how the placement goes on those types of chords. can
someone tell me how they are determined?
-Schister | 11/4/2003
D/F# 200323
Asus x02230
GREAT JOB on the song...I love it!
-Acoustic4jesus | 11/13/2003
Oh sorry, finger placements...well, i use my thumb to push the F# on
the D/F# (the 2nd fret of the E string) and just play a regular D.
And then on the Asus I play a regular A and push the extra note (3rd
fret) with my pinky
-Acoustic4jesus | 11/13/2003
My daughter turned 7 late Oct. I don't know what I'd do if something like
that happened. I take a lot of your work off this site PalaminO.
You always do a great job! God Bless you and your daughter.

-fjf13 | 3/9/2004
God i love this song, and it made me cry the first time i heard it, and still kinda
makes me cry. Its awsome to be able to play it, thanx for puting them here so others
could learn it. I give it a 10!!!
-Vett | 6/21/2004
I may be wrong but instead of the Bm-D-Bm-G progression on:
she's much to young to be on her own
barely just turned seven
i'd go
D Bm
she's much to young to be on her own
G G
barely just turned seven
-nickv4 | 10/9/2004
that comment was false by me
sorry
it goes Bm,Bm/A,G,G
a little walkdown
-nickv4 | 10/9/2004
great song...really touched my heart!!!
-gretchel | 11/24/2004
