Sons of the Desert - Goodbye Earl (Live)

Intro - G - C - G - D - C = 2x's

(verse 1)
G C
Mary Ann and Wanda were the best of friends,
G D
All through thier high school days,
G C
Both members of the 4H club,
     G D G
Both active in the F.F.A.

(verse 2)
G C G
After graduation Mary Ann went out lookin,
                 D
for a bright new world,
G C
Wanda looked all around this town,
     G D G - C
And all she found was Earl,

(verse 3)
G
Well it wasn't two weeks,
       C
After she got married that,
G D
Wanda started gettin' abused,
           G C
She put on dark glasses and long sleeved blouses,
    G D G
And make up to cover a bruise,

(verse 4)
G C
Well she finally got the nerve to file for divorce,
G D
She let the law take it from there,
    G C
But Earl walked right through that restraining order,
    G D G - C - G - C
And put her in intensive care,

(bridge)
     Em D
Right away Mary Ann flew in from Atlanta,
      C G
On a red eye midnight flight,
         Em
She held Wanda's hand as they,
D
Worked out a plan,
       C D
And it didn't take 'em long to decide,
                  G - C - G
That Earl had to die,

(chorus)
    D C G - C
Goodbye Earl, Those black-eyed peas,
             G D C
They tasted all right to me Earl,
         G - C
feelin' weak,
              G D C
Why don't you lay down, And sleep Earl,
           G - C
Ain't it dark,
         G D C - G - C - G - C
Wrapped up in that tarp Earl,

(verse 5 **Key Change**)
A D
The cops came by to bring Earl in,
          A E
And they searched the house high and low,
          A
Then they tipped thier hats,
          D A E A
And said "thank you ladies if you hear from him let us know",

(verse 6)
A
Well the weeks went by and,
D
Spring turned to Summer,
A E7
And Summer faded into Fall,
       A D
And it turns out he's a missing person,
 A ( stop music ) - D - A - D
nobody missed at all,

(bridge)
       F#m E
So the girls bought some land, and a roadside stand
D A
Out on Highway One O' Nine,
          F#m E
They sell Tennessee ham, and strawberry jam,
         D E
And they don't, lose any sleep at night 'cause,
             A - D - A
Earl had to die,

(chorus)
   E D A
Goodbye Earl,we need a break,
D A E D
Let's go out to the lake Earl,
               A - D
We'll pack a lunch,
           A E D
And stuff you in the trunk Earl,
           A - D
Is that alright,
           A E
Good Let's go for a ride,
D A - D
Earl Hey HEy HEy,
A E D
Goodbye Earl,
         A
Hey HEy HEy,

I'm sorry, but I think this song was recorded by the anti-American slut band known as the Dixie Chicks. I don't believe that the Sons of the Desert ever recorded this song.

While you are correct about the Dixie Chicks recording this song,
Sons of the Desert recorded it as well, if you or anyone
else would like the mp3 I could post it to someone's
ftp or something.......:)
