D-----------------------------
A—0--------5--------4-------
E------------------------------

(Bm) I'm just an (F#m) American(Bm) boy (D/F#bass) raised on (D/E) MTV (D)
And I've (Em/G) seen all those (Bm) kids in the (Em) soda pop (Bm) ads
(Bm) But none of 'em (F#m) looked like me (Bm)
So (Bm) I started (F#m) lookin' (Bm) around for a (D/F#bass) light out (D/E) of the dim (D)
And the (Em/G) first thing I (Bm) heard that made (Em) sense was the (Bm) word
Of (Bm) Mohammed, (F#m) peace be upon (Bm) him

A (D) shadu la (A) ilaha illa (Em) Allah
(G) There is no God but (F#m) God (Bm)

chorus runs straight into next verse without pause for breath…

(Bm) If my daddy (F#m) could see me (Bm) now – (D/F#bass) chains (D/E) around my (D) feet
He (Em/G) don't under (Bm) stand that (Em) sometimes a (Bm) man
Has got to fight for (F#m) what he believes (Bm)
And (Bm) I believe (F#m) God is (Bm) great, all (D/F#bass) praise (D/E) due to (D) him
And if (Em/G) I should (Bm) die, I'll rise (Em) up to the (Bm) sky
Just like Jesus, peace (F#m) be upon (Bm) him

A (D) shadu la (A) ilaha illa (Em) Allah
(G) There is no God but (F#m) God (Bm)

Guitar break

(Bm) We came to (F#m) fight the Ji-(Bm)-had and our (D/F#bass) hearts were (D/E) pure and (D) strong
As death (Em/G) filled the (Bm) air, we all (Em) offered up (Bm) prayers
And (Bm) prepared for our (F#m) martyrdom (Bm)
But (Bm) Allah had (F#m) some other (Bm) plan,
some (D/F#bass) secret (D/E) not re-(D)-vealed
Now they're (Em/G) draggin' me (Bm) back with my (Em) head in a (Bm) sack
To the (Bm) land of the (F#m) infidel (Bm)

A (D) shadu la (A) ilaha illa (Em) Allah
A (D) shadu la (A) ilaha illa (Em) Allah

Repeat to fade.

I have seen Steve play this and he Capo's at the 2nd fret. uses forms for Am, Em, Dm C and G. Great song to belt out.

A little trick with the strummin but play along with the record and you will get it

Don't agree with Steve's political views,
and I don't like the message this song puts out,
but you did hit this one right on the head.
Good tab.

burn dog's right. He plays it with a capo on the 2nd fret in A minor.
