Back When - Tim McGraw
Album: Live Like You Were Dying
Writers: Jeff Stevens/Stephony Smith/Stan Lynch

Intro: G D Am C

G D
Don't you remember, the fizz in a pepper
Am G D
Peanuts in a bottle at ten, two and four
   G D
A fried bologna sandwich with mayo and tomato
Am G D
Sittin' round the table don't happen much anymore
       Em A7
We got too complicated It's all way over-rated
            C D
I like the old and out-dated way of life

Chorus:
G D
Back when a hoe was a hoe
C
Coke was a coke
     G
And crack's what you were doing
                        D
When you were cracking jokes
             D
Back when a screw was a screw
    C
The wind was all that blew
     G
And when you said I'm down with that
                          D
Well it meant you had the flu
            Am
I miss back when
             C
I miss back when
             G D
I miss back when

G D
I love my records, black, shiny vinyl
Am G D
Clicks and pops and white noise, man they sounded fine
G D
I had my favorite stations, the ones that played them all
Am G D
Country, soul and rock-and-roll what happened to those times?
             Em A7
I'm readin' Street Slang For Dummies cause they put pop in my country
         C D G
I want more for my money, the way it was back then

CHORUS

Break(in from end of chorus): G D Am G D

          Em
Give me a flat top for strumming
            A7
I want the whole world to be humming
C D G
Just keep it coming, the way it was back then

CHORUS

             Am C
I miss back when, I miss back when

Outro: G D Am C (repeat 3 times into fade)

What does "10, 2 and 4" refer to??
-WnderWman7 | 11/20/2004
it referes 2 the CB radios.... "whats your 10-4?"
-supercow101 | 11/20/2004
Great tab, like the song, great beat to line dance to,fun to play,Now for more importent buisness, could someone tab the leads for me please ?im not that good at figuering them out myself,THAT is why I come here.
-wondedheart | 11/28/2004
um... 10, 2, and 4 refers to the old dr.pepper bottles if yall can remember them, not CB radios. Listen to the verse, "fizz in a pepper" "peanuts in a bottle" "10,2,and 4" he's talking about dr. pepper bottles
-bigshot628 | 11/29/2004
Yeah it's to do with their advertising slogan in the 50's (drink Dr. Pepper at 10,2 & 4 cause that's when the body needs a boost of sugar)
-Shantel | 11/30/2004
My mom has a dr pepper bottle with the clock on it... classic!
-ehaselby | 12/4/2004
Could anyone help me on a strumming pattern for this song????
-JonPepeK | 12/6/2004
dr. pepper was origanally suppose to be a medicene taken at 10, 4 and 2, just like coke-a-cola except coke-a-cola had cocaine in it.
-dueteronomy | 12/7/2004
Thanks alot for putting out tabs with great new country songs. Tim McGraw ain't Johnny Cash but I think he is a good singer and I like most of his songs.
-spitfire_00_911 | 12/8/2004

-johnjoub | 12/11/2004
sum 1 do the intro on lead plz
-nikelendvoy | 12/14/2004
Hey guitar nick. Iam just the opposite.
I started out playin rock, always a country fan though.
I Have noticed, that if you really sit down
and learn country solos
they are alot harder than rock solos i think.
I mean, if you can sit and study Brad Paisley,
Or alan jackson style electric, you could have loads
of fun man, lol, take care yall, GREAT TAB,

Chris

The "new country" vs. "old country" debate comments and dissing of Tim McGraw have been deleted.

If you would like to start a debate please take it to the message boards. Further comments with nothing to do with the TAB will be deleted.

Thanks!
-Shantel | 2/13/2005
this is an really good song. I sang it and played it with this tab at my schools end of the year pops concert. It is a verey well written tab thanks.
-slaker2008 | 5/23/2005
awsome song and if you really think about it has some truth to it.
-rebelduckhunter | 6/22/2005
What is "peanuts in a bottle" referring to?

-jeffelvis | 7/8/2005
People used to put peanuts in their Dr. Pepper. (I know it sounds weird but that's what they say)
-Shantel | 7/13/2005
Hey not that it's a big deal, but he's not saying "im reading street slang for dummies, cause they put pop in my country" he's saying " im reading street slang for dummies cause they were POPPIN my country" as in making fun of his country accent. Tim Mcgraw didnt write this song. so what if George Strait, instead of tim would have decided to record it. because there is definitely no pop in george straits country. like i said not a big deal but these are the correct lyrics and it also makes more sense this way.
-logan98 | 2/6/2006
this rocks
-sehall1019 | 2/19/2006
This has to be the dumbest damn song I've ever heard! And Tim is the perfect "goober" to sing it. And I thought "Ticks" and that freakin' "Badonkadonk" song was the worst, but "Back When" may just win the award.
