REDNECK ROSES
Tracy Byrd
(Byrd/Hill)
CD: No Ordinary Man
1994 MCA Records

Intro

Not (Eb) so long ago on his (Cm7) way home from work
He’d (Fm) stop by the side of the (Bb) road
Step (Fm) out of that old beat up (Bb) Ford, that he (Eb) drove
And he’d walk around (Cm7) searchin’ the ground
For a (Fm) handful of wildflower (Bb7) blooms
(Fm) Thinkin’ of where he’d be (Bb7) soon, there with (Eb) her

She called them red(Eb/G)neck (Ab) roses, (Bb) cause that’s what they (Eb) were
A simple (Fm7) gift of love from a (Ab) country boy to his (Bb7) girl (Bb7sus) (Bb7)
She called them (Eb/G) redneck (Ab) roses (Bb) they didn’t cost a (Cm) dime (Bb) (Ab)
But (Fm) they brought a smile to her (Bb) face every (Eb) time

Now it’s (Eb) years down the line she (Cm) sits home alone
It’s the (Fm) usual end of the (Bb) day
Once a(Fm)gain he’s still working (Bb) late, but he never (Eb) calls
They’ve got a house on a hill and no (Cm) problems with bills
And a (Fm) baby that’s on the (Bb7) way
But her (Fm) heart longs for those yester(Bb7)days and his (Eb) love

She called them red(Eb/G)neck (Ab) roses, (Bb) cause that’s what they (Eb) were
A simple (Fm7) gift of love from a (Ab) country boy to his (Bb7) girl (Bb7sus) (Bb7)
She called them (Eb/G) redneck (Ab) roses (Bb) they didn’t cost a (Cm) dime (Bb) (Ab)
But (Fm) they brought a smile to her (Bb) face every (Eb) time

They could (Fm) still bring a smile to her (Bb) face
if he only had the (Eb) time (Db) (Eb)

I have a question. Wouldn't it be the same - and easier - just to tune down a half step and play in the key of E?
