The verse is "Look in the mirror in total surprise/ At the hair on my shoulders and the age in my eyes." Also, the last verse is "well I finally made 40; still wearin' jeans" -caseyheilman | 5/13/2003 | first line is god know I tried not Lord. -Dkuttner | 9/13/2003 | first line is god know I tried not Lord. -Dkuttner | 9/13/2003 | FIRST LINE IS (IVE HELD IT ALL IN LORD, GOD KNOWS IVE TRIED) -JUG12321 | 1/24/2005 | the original version says "i'm over 30, still wearin' jeans -JonBjr | 2/19/2005 | The chords seem alright, but I think it would be E7. It's all personal preference if it's either E or E7, because in a lot of songs, it might be difficult to tell, but I have a manuscr i pt version of this song, and it's in F, and the chord that would be E in the key of a is C7. Like the chords here are A,D,E: well, the manuscr i pt has F,Bb,C7. The key is right, but I think it's an E7. Myself, I like playin it in Bb, if I'm not playin with the recording, cause I sound better in Bb, myself. And the "still wearing jeans" line, in some live versions, he plays around with the words on that line. In one version, he says "Ive finally made forty, and still wearin jeans", and in a nother version, he says "Im pushin 30, and still wearin jeans." But the original recording is the right way. I like that idea anyway, being 40 years old and still wearin jeans. Waylon has some of the most awesome words in his songs. -macg1 | 9/24/2005 | First line is "I've held it all inward, God knows I try." -tyler1501 | 10/18/2005 | Last line of the song is "now I've finnally made 40 and still wearing jeans". -bluegrass30009 | 1/12/2006 |
