Song: Amanda
By: Waylon Jennings

1ST VERSE
     A D A
I've held it all in, Lord knows I've tried

            A E A
But it's an awful awakening in a country boy's life

   A D A
To look in the mirror in total surprise

       A E A
At the hair on my collar and the age in my eyes.

CHORUS
 A D A
Amanda, light of my life

A E A
Fate should have made you a gentleman's wife

 A D A
Amanda, light of my life

A E A
Fate should have made you a gentleman's wife

2ND VERSE
It's a measure of people who don't understand
The pleasures of life in a Hillbilly band.
I got my first guitar when I was fourteen
Now I'm pushing 30(?), still wearing jeans.

The verse is "Look in the mirror in total surprise/ At the hair on my shoulders and the age in my eyes."
Also, the last verse is "well I finally made 40; still wearin' jeans"

The chords seem alright, but I think it
would be E7. It's all personal preference
if it's either E or E7, because in a lot of
songs, it might be difficult to tell, but I
have a manuscr i pt version of this song, and
it's in F, and the chord that would be E in
the key of a is C7. Like the chords here are
A,D,E: well, the manuscr i pt has F,Bb,C7. The key is right, but I think it's an E7. Myself, I like playin it in Bb, if I'm not playin
with the recording, cause I sound better in Bb, myself.
And the "still wearing jeans" line, in some
live versions, he plays around with the words on that line. In one version, he says
"Ive finally made forty, and still wearin
jeans", and in a nother version, he says
"Im pushin 30, and still wearin jeans."
But the original recording is the right way.
I like that idea anyway, being 40 years old
and still wearin jeans. Waylon has some of
the most awesome words in his songs.
