AMEN -RONNIE | 2/20/2006 |
I don't judge them - I just tab them - I felt the same sick feeling as I did when I tab any Big & Rich:) Remember that this was written in 1981 and not by Willie Nelson. -lmofle | 2/20/2006 |
Is this serious? The cowboy is and always has been a symbol of real men. Too me, this song and the movie Brockback Mountain don't make me sick just because of the homosexuality, but also the fact that they defile the image of the great American cowboy. -falgorn | 2/20/2006 |
P.S. nothing wrong with the tab Larry thanks for all the work you put into the site so people like me who are beginners have a change to play the songs we love. -rebelheart1440 | 2/20/2006 |

ruined everything willie nelson ever wrote -Nyper | 2/20/2006 |
Again - Willie Nelson DID NOT WRITE THIS!! Willie has always lived on the edge and this was recorded over 25 years ago..Willie is the same guy that sang about Shotgun Willie sittin' around in his underwear... -lmofle | 2/20/2006 |
wtf is this, and why is willie nelson singing this. Is willie nelson gay? what album is this on? At first I thought this was a joke. I can't belive this s**t. First brokeback mountain now this, and willie nelson of all people. -KnoxGodoy3 | 2/21/2006 |
nope, willie don't swing that way. he loves the ladies. he never wrote the song. the dude who wrote the song wrote it during the urban cowboy craze, and imagined willie singing it. that movie brokeback mountain is a fictional love story. cowboys didn't swing that way. they loved the ladies. they either had wives or just remained single. anyhow, when cowboys were away from their women, they'd wait 'til they got home,or they went to whoarehouses, as they travelled. Now, legendary musicians like Willie and Waylon and Cash, all sang cowboy songs.Willie is the biggest name left in cowboy songs. it wouldn't imapact his career much. now, if someone made a movie about prison lovers, it wouldn't change anything if Cash sang a song about that.He sang prison songs. But, if he were around today, he wouldn't like this cowboy love or even the topic of prison love. But, it wouldn't hurt his career if he sang a song like that. in short, willie loves the ladies, and he didn't write the song here. -macg1 | 2/21/2006 |
I saw on CMT (or somewhere else) the other day that Willie recorded this song as a tribute to his long time road manager (?), but I could be wrong. -prf12 | 2/21/2006 |
i still dont understand why willie nelson would sing this -KnoxGodoy3 | 2/21/2006 |
I think you're digging too deep - Willie just got done with a Reggae album - he did Stardust back in the 80's which was all big band tunes - he just likes unusual songs... -lmofle | 2/21/2006 |
lol you guys cant take a joke, whats so offensive about willie singing about gay cowboys, hes very progressive haha, its 2011 and willie nows that -macklincaruso | 5/5/2011 |
Wow, it's really stupid that everyone feels the need to distance Willie from this song. Obviously he was comfortable singing a sincere and earnest cover of this gay cowboy song. He is willing to take other people's experiences seriously and compassionately. If you think that this contradicts some idea of the real man or the real cowboy then you have an extremely screwed up idea of what a real man is. What takes guts is singing a song like this even though you know that ignorant people will freak out. -Pawel.cienin | 12/27/2015 |
