Welcome to the Future
Brad Paisley/Chris Dubois(ASCAP)
Tabbed by Barrett Coffey

Into: G D G D

Verse1:

G
When I was 10 years old
G C G D
I remember thinking how cool it would be
D C
We were going on an 8 hour drive
C G
If I could just watch TV
G
And I'd have given anything
G C G D
To have my own PacMan game at home
D C
I used to have to get a ride down to the arcade
C G
Now I got it on my phone

Chorus:

Em C G
Hey.............
G D Em
Glory Glory Hallelujah
D G
Welcome to the future

He wrote 100 letters to my Grandma
C G
Mailed em from his base in the Phillipines
G
I wish they could see this now
G D
They world they say has changed you know
D C
Cause I was on a video chat this morning
C G
With a company in Tokyo

Happening right in front of me

Verse:3

G
I had a friend in school
G C G D
Running back on the football team
D C
They burned a cross in his front yard
C G
For asking out the home coming queen
G
I thought about him today
G C G D
And everybody who's seen what he's seen

From a woman on a bus

To a man with a dream

awesome!! my fav song on the album!!! :)
-kailani430 | 7/4/2009
This song is commercial country at it's worst. At one time, Brad Paisley was the cure for pop-country. His clever hooks and masterful guitar work was no less than awe-inspiring. Now, he is no more than another cookie-cutter act, recording songs for teenage girls to dance to. Mr. Paisley shoud be
ashamed of himself.

And, before anyone says it, I will defend my position. DO NOT CALL THIS MATURING!!! To mature
musically, you must go against the grain, not follow the herd.

I'm probably not as educated or pretentious as the guy who commented before me, but i love this song. I think it's catchy and inspiring. Another great one from Brad...dang I wish i could play like him!
-dennisnjoni | 7/17/2009
i happen to love this song. i think besides 5th gear, his is probably my favorite brad paisley album
-whitetailhunter | 7/19/2009
HAHA! Yea this song is my least favorite song on the album but its not too bad. I just think it's funny that that guy looked up the chords when he hates it so much.
-seanr | 7/22/2009
Have you heard the rest of this album, Chris? It's excellent, and it's country. If this is the worst song on this album, than the whole thing gets an A. This is his best since Mud on the Tires.
-dantheman85x | 7/23/2009
Oh and Rascal Flatts, Gloriana, and Keith Urban are the worst of commercial country.
-dantheman85x | 7/23/2009
I'll admit, I was disappointed that the new album had no gospel song, no kung pao buckaroo's, and no lighting fast instrumental. But I know that he got a lot of negative reviews when he put out his last album (play) and I will be forever grateful that he made that album even though it was commercial suicide. If this song is what it takes to appease the liberal machine that seems to run the music industry then so be it. I'll let him off the hook this time...

Dennis, Wildcard criticizes every song that doesn't sound like old country... Guess what wildcard, all genres of music have gone through a change. deal with it. I think country sounds better now that it did in the 70's and 80's. I think so do the hundreds of thousands new fans.
-countryis1 | 8/27/2009
This isn't a bad song. It isn't old country though, I will definitely agree with that.

It is kind of unfortunate that those people who liked the 80's definition of "Pop" music are probably many of the people who are digging songs like this today. "Pop" as we knew it years ago has largely disappeared in favor of the Jordin Sparks-Rihanna type of sound, more based on R & B. There is no more bands making songs like "Walk Of Life", "Authority Song" or "Heaven Is A Place On Earth", etc. That may all be well and good but I think new country has become the alternative for a lot of these folks craving something pop-ish so the standard Paisley-Urban fare suits these people well along with the kids today who just like the sound of this type of song.

I hope that Brad doesn't leave behind a lot of his talent in the quest of pop fans. I hope to see him in the role of an Opry veteran down the road, much like Vince Gill or Steve Wariner is today.

I'm going to go listen to "El Paso" now.
-Robm | 9/12/2009
I agree, totally. The liberal machine has taken Brad Paisley and re-formed him into a slick and polished pop star. I never stated that Brad did not have talent – I find him to be much more talented than the Keith Urbans and Sugarlands that country radio cling to, so dearly. There are very few acts that reject the clutches of Nashville’s hands. Craig Morgan, Alan Jackson, George Strait, Lee Ann Womack, and Jamey Johnson make the same music today as they would have 10 years ago. They are not afraid to make songs for adults who grew up listening to country. I am sorry that I am the only one on this site who has a taste in country music and not pop-country music. I feel that we are all entitled to our opinions and I have stated mine. If any of you want to hear what country music sounds like, send me an email and I will give you a list of “100 Country Songs For People Who Don’t Know What Country Is”.

OK, now I'm really disapointed... Just saw Paisley with Sheryl Crow on Jay Leno last night. WORST BRAD PAISLEY PERFORMANCE OF ALL TIME!!!! What the hell was she doing on there? She did not write the song, she did not record on the song. Will someone please explain why. Oh wait, I know. Was it perhaps that they wouldn't let a country singer on their program unless they shoved some overrated hack up there with them? I'd rather see Little Jimmie Dickens up there any day of the week.
-BrianEarlHaines | 9/29/2009
i think the song 'No" could be kinda considered a gospel song. This isn't a pop song. he put a little techno in it to make it sound futureistic. ya'll need to stop bashin paisley and saying he isnt country anymore. more people like the new country then all the old stuff. not that there was anything wrong with the old stuff but this is really way better. catchier. this is a great album by paisley. great guitar in this album. this is not a teenage girl song haha there is no way they would ever play this at like homecoming dance or anything haha idk where he got teenage girls from this
-keanu17 | 9/29/2009
In a response to the song "No" It can be considered a gospel song but it's not a traditional gospel song like he has included in all his other albums. It could also be considered "Unaswered Prayers part II"
-BrianEarlHaines | 9/29/2009
Great song!!!!!!!!

I've been a member here for some time now, and read some pretty off-the-wall comments. I have always shrugged them off - hey I learned a long time ago that in this country we need to let people have their say. But I gott'a tell ya, I hear people criticize musicians for everyting from their dress, hair, guitars, hats, boots/shoes, shirts, sets, comments, live performances, albums/CD's, radio and television appearances and social circles. Hey Folks - have you nothin' better to do? I'm certain we couild look at ourselves and find plenty to complain about - if you really need to complain. But when it comes to music - the pure nature of it IS evoling. Hey, I'm 60 yrs old, have been a music fan all my life, and find something to like in every genre of music. Certainly I like some, don't care for others - but I sure as hell not gonna criticize the artist for not makin' it the way "I" like it - cause there ae always those who do. If I don't like it I don't buy it. As far as Country music over the years - thank God it's changed and continues to do so. Any musician can tell you that if it doesn't morph you will, I guarantee you, run out of melodies (how many I,IV,V progressions can you come up with anyways?) I have a large collection of "Old Country", and I love to listen to it, but that don't mean my neighbor has to like the same era of Country music! Wildcard, I admire that you like the old stuff, but where do you get the right to criticize an artist for not doin' it "your way"? Just don't figure.
