"That's A Man"
Album TBD, 2008
Songwriter: Jack Ingram

I put an uncapoed version of the song underneath for you purists.

Capo III

D A
Saw a story on the local news last night
      G
About one more struggling single mother
        D A
She was talking about how hard it is getting by
                        G
With no help, no money, no nothing from the baby's father
        D A
Made me think about this guy I know with a wife and a child
              G
Who's working two jobs just to get by
         D A
Yeah, he says he'd do anything he could in this world
                                G
Just to give his young family a better life
        A
Yeah, a better life

D G A
Ooooh, that's a man
         D G A
That's a 19-year-old, modern-day hero man

D A
Those two young Marines over there fighting for their country
G
Man, they're gonna be friends forever
        D
They've both come back eventually
       A
But as bonds and destiny would have it
G
They don't come back together
          D
Yeah, the one who lived to tell about
    A
Why he can't even talk about it
      G
Keeps fighting that fight up there in his head
        D A
Ain't a day goes by he don't wonder why
              G
Why it wasn't me instead
                 A
It could've been me instead

D G A
Ooooh, that's a man
         D
That's a you don't know how hard he tried
   G A
To save his buddy's life man
 Bm G
I don't know about you
           D A
Sometimes, I just need a little reminder
      G A
And reach down and find some understanding
                            D
Find some kind of kindness

D G A
D

D A
Read about a man who said his family
                                  G
Had been farming the same land in Ohio for 100 years
D A
Felt like he'd paid for it ten times over
     G
With his own blood, his own sweat, and his own tears
D A
If he had to, he'd be out there on that tractor working
      G
Seven long, hot days a week
      D A
Yeah, he's the kind of feller that people get real quiet
                     G
When he stands up in church to speak
                    A
They know when he speaks

D G A
Ooooh, that's a man
         D
That's a stand tall, walk straight
    G A
Put God's share in the collection plate man

D G A
Ooooh, that's a man
D G A
Ooooh, that's a man

A(Bb)
But as bonds and destiny would have it

minor typo on the purist version, Bb...

I love this song. I can't wait to play this. Not having played it, I do have one disagreement, however. To me it sounds like Jack says "As bombs and destiny would have it". Other than that, I won't criticize until I play it.

If you enjoy the tab, please rate it fairly. Some a*****e rated this a 1 and that's where it stands. I'd appreciate it.
