Shantel your the best we got. And I hate to question you but whatif you just tuned it drop D and then tuned the whole guitar down 1/2 step to a drop D Flat tuning and then played pre> --------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------- ---------3-4-3-----------3-5----------------- -----3-5-------5-----3-5-3-5----------------- -0-0-------------0-0-----3-5----------------- /pre> In that tuning it would make you Db easier. And he plays a G shaped chord and this tuning would make it your F# and he plays a C shaped chord that would be your B. If you go to CMT.com they have a (free to watch)studio 330 session video of him performing Hicktown and his lead guitarist bars the top three strings as you would for a 5th chord in drop D tuning. Hopefully I'm right and helpful and not embarassing myself.
Thanks, ED -Casper_cowboy | 6/9/2005 |
Great tab it helped me out a lot...Thanks -brettum | 6/13/2005 |
good tab ireally like this song i live in alabama and we live like this evry weekend not amaco ,texaco way cheaper -peaceallover | 6/20/2005 |
Casper, I'd have to say its easier to tune/retune 1 string than all 6
-nickelcreed | 6/25/2005 |
I think you are the one smokin there buddy...i have a good song for you...its by pink floyd, something about education...nice work again shantel... -frickity | 7/5/2005 |
WildCard, what is your idea of country? -badbrad | 7/12/2005 |
I agree with Casper Cowboy, you can clearly see something different on the CMT Studio 330 tab. The Intro sounds great but that Db cord dosent sound right. -ascarla | 7/13/2005 |
Shantel youre right on the money for guitar #1. Casper is also right, Aldean has his guitar tuned in E flat so that he can play in open chords with guitar #1. He's playing D open then G. On the chorus he is using c (in place of B). Playing two guitars with this combo and different tunig sounds awsome together. Good job guys! (Just clarrifying this for the people that werent understanding, this tab is 100% right)) -jaybb | 7/14/2005 |
i saw him live at the pub in harrisonburg VA, and i was standing as clase to him as i could get, i was on the dance floor and the front row standing at the stage. He does use a separate guitar for this song where the whole thing is tuned down a half step, but not in drop D. As far as the rest of the band who actually play this riff, they dont change tuning at all. That extra low not you are hearing comes from the bass over lapping the guitar.
like this:
e--------------------------------- b--------------------------------- g--------------------------------- d-----------2h3-------------2-4--- repeat a---4-4-2-4-----2-4-2-4h(2)-2-4--- e---------------------------0-4---
makes chording a little tougher through the whole song, but if your using an electric its just typical bar chords, (same thing on acoustic, we just all know how much fun bar chords are on an acoustic). so try this, and if you got a band, or just jammin, just tell the bass guy to double you up on that low Db (C#).
oh...and wildcard, this song IS DEFINITELY country. this guy kicks ass and is the real deal, he plays an awsome show, and he sings about real things, this aint no freak parade new age stuff, this is good havin fun, crank up the kraco speakers and rock out, and thats what jason does in his concerts, and you can tell he comes from truly country roots, and has a good soul to him. the whole band is awsome, i got hit in the head with the bass, and met the guy afterwards, and even with his spiked hair (its the same band as in the video) he apologized and they were all real cool, even after the beer spilling incident...but hey its a pub, but great guy, great song, try this way out as an alternative at playing it. -cntyotlw | 7/19/2005 |
It doesnt have to be with the original but who can transpose this song with some standard tuning in mind sounds kinda like if it is played in Db that would be an E in standard tuning wouldnt it so in other words it would be like an E A B type progression maybe. -prs1man | 7/25/2005 |
this song is in C#, or Db, so to transpose it just to play it, your best bet would just be take it up to D, and its a I, III, IV progression, so it would be D, F, G. -cntyotlw | 7/26/2005 |
I think you nailed it casper. And as far as I can tell on the recording there is no bass overtones just tuned down guitar. -RevNight | 8/27/2005 |
With the low E string dropped to Db, I use this formation for the E & F# chords. E5: x2245x, F#5: x4467x. It rings nice and changes pretty naturally with the Db & B chords. Great down home tune. Killer tab. Thanks guys. Let err rip! -shawndaley | 9/6/2005 |
Ed, I tried it your way. It sounds right with the exception of a few notes. If you play all three low strings you get a growling sound. Instead, play
----------------------------- ----------------------------- ----------------------------- ----------3-4---------------- ------3-5-----3-5----3-5-4-6- --0-0-------------0-0----3-5-
Ed I am having trouble figuring out the chords in your tuning. Please tab the chords for me. Nothing wrong with Shantel's way, but Ed's tuning definetly works. This tab turns the last two notes into a typical rock power chord. It sounds GOOD through the amp. -rase01 | 9/17/2005 |
good tab man but i like eds intro but good job with the chords. It sounds good if u just tune down full step to d and leave rest standard. Bc eds version at the end when u use 3 5 thoes are drop d rock chords. 3 5 3 5 -simpleplanguita | 9/21/2005 |
Im sry i put drop d its actually drop c# so ed is right i believe
-simpleplanguita | 9/21/2005 |
Thanks everyone for posting helpful comments! When you are talking about dropping to a C# would it not also be correct to drop the remaining strings a half step? So then really your tuned down a step with a dropped C# (E string)? -blicious67 | 6/24/2008 |
The tab parts are perfect... the riff and walkdown.
For the chorus, since I'm just playing it by myself and already have the stupid 6th string in tuned to Db, this is how I play the chorus:
e------------------ B------------------- G----------------- D------4--s--2-----4-- A------4--s--2-----4- Db---- 0-----------0- -dantheman85x | 3/22/2009 |
