I think the verse progression is actually pre> C Dm C/E G/pre>. I've been trying to play this most of the night and the "F" doesn't seem to come in until verse that says "when you're lost and weary..."
The C/E chord is barring strings 2, 3 and 4 on the 5th fret with your first finger and also adding the "E" note on the 5th string 7th fret at the same time.
