Johnny Cash - Folsom Prison Blues (Key of E)

By Mike Terrian - mike_terrian at yahoo.com

I use this little lick in the beggining & end.

-------------------
-------------------
-------------------
-------1-1---------
-2-2-2-----2-------
-------------2br-0-

E
I hear the train a comin, It's rollin round the bend.

I ain't seen the sunshine since, I don't know when.
    A E
I'm stuck in Folsom Prison, And time keeps draggin on.
         B7 E
But that train keeps a rollin on down to San Antone.

When I was just a baby, my mamma told me son.
Always be a good boy don't ever play with guns.
But I shot a man in Reno, Just to watch him die.
When I hear that train a rollin, I hang my head and I cry.

I bet there's rich folk eatin in a fancy dinin car.
Probaly drinkin coffee and smokin big cigars.
But I knew I had it comin, I know I can't be free.
That train keeps a rollin, and that's what tortures me.

If they freed me from this prison, If that railroad train was mine.
I think that I would move a little farther down the line.
Far from folsom prison, thats where I'd want to stay.
And I'd let that lonesome whistle blow my blues away

Play little lick

Great song! Great job! But put a capo and
the first fret play it the same way and drop
the E to an E7 an the last word of the second line in each verse and its perfect.

E
I hear the train a comin its rollin round
the bend

and I ain't seen the sunshine since I don't
E7
know when

A quick run on the low E string after the E7 into A chord completes the song.

E---0--2--4-----
-dmdude17 | 9/19/2005
Then going from A back to E, do this:
A E
A---------------2-(strum)---2---2----------
E--4-2-0(strum)-----------4---2---0-(strum)
B7
A--2-(strum)-----0-1--2
E------------0-4-------

Then when you go from B7 to E, do the same
notes of the run leading into the B7, only
backwards. here:
B7 E
A--2-1-0-------------
E--------4-0---------
