This is my take on a great tune honoring my fellow combat vets ...
I will try to add the solo work sometime,
but I usually do those from memory with my own twists on them =)

Didn’t I

verse 1

F G C
Didn't I make you proud, go and lay my life down, when you called my name.

   F G C
I thought I stood for something, was doin' the right thing when I went away.

          F
Now being back should be so simple,

           C G
but I keep getting these mixed signals from everyone.

       F
Why do folks sit and judge me,

    C G
who ain't seen what I seen or did what I done.

Chorus

         C F C
Didn't I burn, didn't I bleed, enough for you.

   C F C
I faced, your fears, felt pain so you won't have to.

              G F Eb
Yeah didn't I do my best; and wasn't home here when I left.

Verse

          F G C
I've seen boys fall to pieces, grown men cry out for Jesus, till their black and blue.

          F
I thought God was on our side,

              G
weren't we supposed to be the good guys

                     C
that would never lose.

              F
Cause I don't see no ticker tape

   C G
or five mile parade saying, thank you son.

        F
Just folks that sit and judge me,

    C G
who ain't seen what I seen or did what I done.

Chorus

         C F C
Didn't I burn, didn't I bleed, enough for you.

   C F C
I faced, your fears, felt pain so you won't have to.

              G F Eb
Yeah didn't I do my best; and wasn't home here when I left.
