THE FINE LINE
Montgomery Gentry
Sumbitted by: Mischief810

This song can be played in both standard tuning and double drop D tuning. It's
easy to play and sing. It's also fun to play with different interpretations of
the song.

All three verses are played using a strum of the D Major chord. When Eddie begins
singing "so I think I'll just set here..." return to the D Major pattern. Listen
to the recording to get the strum pattern right.

Tuning: EADGBe

Intro:
C G D F C D

Verse 1:

D
I told my mom goodbye when I was eighteen.
She told me bye for good at age sixty-three.
She was an angel right here on earth;
There was sure a fine line between heaven and her.

Verse 2:

D
I went and married the woman I loved.
Three years of me later she had enough.
Just one more angel I didn't deserve;
There was sure a fine line between heaven and her.

Chorus:
           C G D
Feels like everything I love I lose.
    F G D
God giveth and He takes away.
C G D
Prayin's the right thing to do,
      F G A
But I don't feel like prayin' today...
     D
So I think I'll just set here,

And drink for a spell...

Cause there's sure a fine line between heaven and hell.

(Play intro chords twice, with emphasis!)

Verse 3:

D
Now I'm headed nowhere ninety nine miles an hour.
In a '62 Dodge with three hundred horsepower.
If she holds together I might get the nerve...
(silence)
To cross that fine line between heaven and her.

Chorus:
           C G D
Feels like everything I love I lose.
    F G D
God giveth and He takes away.
C G D
Prayin's the right thing to do,
      F G A
But I don't feel like prayin' today...

    D
So maybe I'll just slow down and drink for a spell.
                               (silence)
'Cause there's sure a fine line between heaven and hell.

Outro:
Play intro chords once again, with emphasis!

This is how I play the song using only one acoustic guitar. It can also be played
using Double Drop D tuning: DADGBd, and play the D chord shown below. But you'll
have to revoice the G Major chord in the Chorus to make it sound right. Another
cool substitution is to arpeggiate an Asus2 at the end of the chorus.
