F
Lord Mary took to running with a travelin man
Left her momma crying with her head in her hands
Bb F
Such a sad case so broken hearted
F
She say momma I got to go I gotta get out of here
I gotta get out of town
I'm tired of hanging around
Bb F
I gotta roll on between the ditches
F
It's just an ordinary story bout the way things go
Round and round nobody knows
Bb F
But the highway goes on forever
Bb F
That old highway rolls on forever
F
Lord she never would have done it if she hadn't got drunk
If she hadn't started running with a traveling man
Bb F
If she hadn't started taking those crazy chances
F
She say daughter let me tell you Bout the traveling kind
Everywhere he's going such a very short time
Bb F
He'll be long gone before you know it
Bb F
He'll be long gone before you know it
Dm C
She say never have I known it when it felt so good
Bb F
Never have I knew it when I knew I could
Dm C
Never have I done it when it looked so right
Bb
Leaving Louisiana in the broad daylight
SOLO
F
This is down in the swampland anything goes
It's alligator bait and the bars don't close
Bb F
It's the real thing down in Louisiana
F
Did you ever a Cajun when he really got mad
Really got trouble like a daughter gone bad
Bb F
It gets real hot down in Louisiana
F
The stranger better move it or he's gonna get killed
He's gonna have to get it or a shotgun will
Bb F
It ain't no time for lengthy speeches
Bb F
There ain't no time for lengthy speeches
Dm C
She say never have I known it when it felt so good
Bb F
Never have I knew it when I knew I could
Dm C
Never have I done it when it looked so right
Bb
Leaving Louisiana in the broad daylight
Dm C
She say never have I known it when it felt so good
Bb F
Never have I knew it when I knew I could
Dm C
Never have I done it when it looked so right
Bb
Leaving Louisiana in the broad daylight
Bb
Leaving Louisiana in the broad daylight
F
It's just an ordinary story bout the way things go
Round and round nobody knows
Bb F
Fut the highway goes on forever
Bb F
That ain't no way to stop the water

Why would you not simply capo this song on the 1st fret and play E, A, and B? Don't get me wrong. This is good. It's just easier with a capo. -tpmadden | 4/1/2009 | good point... my fault -guitar013 | 4/21/2009 | I really like the song capoed at the third fret; played out of the key of D ...D, G, A, Bm -harptech | 1/28/2011 | harptech, you've nailed it -WesFreeman | 1/28/2011 |
