Intro: C | G | F | G | C | G | D | G

G C G F
Every day is a gamble, if you're even gonna make it through
         G C G D G
When you live on the side of the mountain, and the babies all need food
          G C G F
I was the youngest one among us, I got sick and would not eat
G C G D G
Daddy prayed accept his fate, but Momma would not heed

C G F
Carry me across the mountain, before it is too late
C G D G
Heal my broken my body, death not be my fate
C G F
Carry me across the mountain, don't give up on me
C G D G
I am but a helpless child, whose life depends on thee

Instrumental: G | C | G | F | G | C | G | D | G

G C G F
Daddy warned against it, said you may not make it through
G C G D G
Momma wrapped me in her arms, crying 'what else can I do?'
           G C G F
There is a place across the mountain top, across the mountain side
     G C G D G
They say there is a doctor there, might save our baby's life

C G F
Carry me across the mountain, before it is too late
C G D G
Heal my broken my body, death not be my fate
C G F
Carry me across the mountain, don't give up on me
C G D G
I am but a helpless child, whose life depends on thee

Insrumental: G | C | G | F | G | C | G | D | G

(Tacit)
      G C G F
Now I stand upon the mountain top, before my mother's grave
    G C G D G
And every year I visit here, to thank her for that day

(End tacit)

C G F
Carry me across the mountain, before it is too late
C G D G
Heal my broken my body, death not be my fate
C G F
Carry me across the mountain, don't give up on me

Outro: C | G | D | G

Again, I don't think the "D" fits here. Not to bad in the chorus but I prefer a hold on the "G" then "F" back to "G"; no "D" at all in the verse.

There is a G at the first of the intro before the C. As far as the D, it's there. It might be the bass but either way it sounds good using it.Nice job.

bwhitty: The first G in the intro was left out because the guitar simply doesn't play it, it comes in with the rest of the band on the C.

Very true. When I play this, I put it in but you're right.
